Barbering in Dubai
Dubai has gents salons on almost every street, from small walk-in shops in Al Karama and Bur Dubai charging neighbourhood prices to premium barbershops in JLT and Business Bay with coffee, hot towels and appointment-only chairs. Same city, very different businesses.
The team is usually multinational. A single salon might have barbers from Pakistan, India, Syria and the Philippines, with a manager who speaks Arabic and English. Most are on salary plus commission, and the commission sheet at month end is where arguments start if it is done on paper.
Licensing goes through Dubai Economy and Tourism (DET) for mainland salons, with Dubai Municipality health rules on top, while salons in free zones such as JLT deal with their free zone authority. Rents in Business Bay and JLT are high, so owners watch chair utilisation closely.
Three things that matter for Dubai shops
- #4
Commission at month end
Commission per service and per product is calculated as each sale is rung up, so the month-end sheet per barber is a report, not a spreadsheet job.
- #2
Ramadan hours
Set Ramadan opening hours in advance so the booking page shows the late slots after iftar and nothing during the day you do not want.
- #0
DET and Municipality
Mainland salons are licensed through Dubai Economy and Tourism, with Dubai Municipality health rules. General information only: confirm with DET and the Municipality.
