Why does switching POS usually mean switching processors?

Lots of barbershop apps make their money on card fees. The software is cheap or free, and the real price is a processing rate you can't negotiate and a contract you can't leave without losing your booking system too.

Barbershops also don't get paid one way. A client pays half cash, half card. Another pays by an app that isn't a card at all. Someone has a gift card from their girlfriend. If the register can only do card or cash, the rest goes on a notepad.

And the drawer. If cash isn't counted against what the register says should be there at close, small gaps become a habit, and you won't know which shift they came from.

How does a ticket get paid and closed?

  1. At opening, the first person on counts the float into the cash drawer and starts a register session.

  2. Card through your processor, cash, or a custom method you've set up. Split one bill across several methods, like part cash and part card.

  3. Redeem a gift card sold as a custom payment, or reward points, against the bill.

  4. Print on a receipt printer, or send by SMS or email. Receipt layouts show tax the way your country needs.

  5. Refund a whole ticket or one line, back to the method it was paid with. Card refunds go back through your processor.

  6. At close, count the cash. getbarberpos compares it with what should be there and saves the difference on the session.

FAQ · 8 questions

Payments: questions owners ask

Q01Do I have to use a specific card processor with getbarberpos?

No. getbarberpos works with your own card processor. We don't process payments ourselves and don't charge a processing markup.

Q02Can a client split a bill between cash and card?

Yes. Add as many payments as you need to one ticket, in any mix of card, cash and custom methods, until the balance is zero.

Q03How do I take JazzCash or Easypaisa payments?

Set them up as custom payment methods. The client sends the money from their app, you check it arrived, and record it on the ticket. Reports show the total for each method.

Q04Can I sell gift cards?

Yes, using custom payments. Sell a gift card as an item, then redeem it as a payment method later and track the balance.

Q05How do refunds work?

Refund a full ticket or single lines. Cash comes out of the drawer, card refunds go back through your processor, and every refund is logged with a reason and who did it.

Q06Can receipts show VAT included in the price?

Yes. Set tax as inclusive and the receipt shows the price the client paid with the VAT amount broken out. Use exclusive tax where tax is added on top, as in most US states.

Q07What is a register session?

It's one shift on the cash drawer. You open it with a float, the system tracks every cash sale and payout, and at close you count the drawer to see if anything's over or short.

Q08Does getbarberpos work with a cash drawer and receipt printer?

Yes. Standard receipt printers and cash drawers that open from the printer work with it. See the hardware page for supported devices.
