Add services with durations and prices

Add your services (fade, lineup, beard trim, kids cut) to getbarberpos with a duration, price, tax rate and category so the queue and bookings work.

At the end of this article your service menu will be in getbarberpos: every cut, lineup, beard and kids service with a price, a time on the book, a tax rate and a category. Barbers can ring them up at the POS, clients can book them online, and the queue board will estimate waits from the durations.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Create categories. Go to Products → Categories → Add. Make groups clients understand: Haircuts, Beard and shave, Kids, Extras (hot towel, eyebrows, design). Categories also become sections in your online store and booking page.
  2. Add the first service. Go to Products → Add product. Type the name exactly as on your board, for example “Skin fade”.
  3. Turn off stock. Untick Manage stock. A haircut has no stock count. Set the product type to single, or variable if it has several price levels.
  4. Set duration. Enter the service time in minutes. A typical lineup is short; a skin fade with a beard is longer. Use your own numbers, not guesses.
  5. Set category, tax and price. Pick the category and the tax rate. Enter the selling price. If your prices include tax (common in the UAE), type the price clients see on the board.
  6. Add variations for price levels. If a senior barber charges more, make the service variable and add variations such as “Senior” and “Junior”, each with its own price.
  7. Allow online booking. Tick the option that makes the service bookable on your booking page. Leave it off for things you only do in the chair, like add-ons.
  8. Set commission per service if needed. If some services pay a different commission, note it now. You set the rules in Tips per barber and commission rules.
  9. Add the rest. Repeat for each service. A typical starter list: fade, taper, buzz cut, scissor cut, lineup, beard trim, hot towel shave, kids cut, design. Use Save and add another to move faster.
  10. Check it at the POS. Open POS, search “fade” and confirm the price and tax look right.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving Manage stock on. The POS will say the service is out of stock after the first sale.
  • Durations that are too short. The book fills up and every client waits. Time a few real cuts.
  • Too many near-duplicate services. “Fade”, “Fade 2” and “Fade new” confuse the front desk. Use variations instead.
  • Forgetting kids and seniors. If you discount them, add the price now so nobody types it by hand.
  • No categories. The online store and booking page become one long list.

Add the products you sell over the counter: Add retail products, barcodes and stock.

FAQ · 5 questions

Quick answers

Q01Why are services added under Products?

In getbarberpos a service is a product that does not track stock. Keeping both in one list means the POS, reports and online store work the same way for cuts and retail.

Q02Can one service have different prices, like senior or junior barber?

Yes. Use variations on the service, for example a fade with a Senior and a Junior price, or a separate price group for a second shop.

Q03How do durations work?

The duration blocks time on the barber's book when a client books online and helps the queue board estimate wait times. Set what the cut really takes, including clean-up.

Q04Can I sell combos like cut and beard?

Yes. Add the combo as its own service with its own price and duration, or ring up both services on one ticket.

Q05Should services carry tax?

It depends where you are. Set the tax per service based on what your accountant tells you. Some US states do not tax haircuts, while UAE VAT usually applies to services.
