At the end of this article your shop will have the right currency, the tax rates you charge, and a receipt that shows your name, address, tax number and a short footer. Every sale you ring up after this will total and print correctly. This is general information about how to set up the software, not tax advice. Confirm your rates and rules with an accountant or your tax authority.
Before you start
- Your account is created. If not, see Create your account.
- Your tax registration number, if you have one (US state sales tax permit, UAE TRN, Pakistan NTN/STRN).
- The tax rate or rates your accountant told you to charge.
- Your shop logo as a square image, if you want it on receipts.
- The address and phone number you want printed.
Steps
- Open business settings. Go to Settings → Business settings. Check the business name, currency, time zone and date format. US shops usually use MM/DD/YYYY. UAE and Pakistan shops usually use DD/MM/YYYY.
- Set the currency. USA picks USD, UAE picks AED, Pakistan picks PKR. Choose where the symbol sits (before or after the amount). Save.
- Add your tax number. In the tax section of business settings, enter the label (for example “TRN” or “NTN”) and the number. Save.
- Create tax rates. Go to Settings → Tax rates → Add. Name each rate and set the percentage.
- USA: add your combined state and local sales tax rate. Some states do not tax haircuts but do tax retail products, so you may need a rate for products and none for services.
- UAE: add VAT at 5%. See the UAE Federal Tax Authority VAT pages (opens in a new tab).
- Pakistan: add the provincial sales tax on services that applies to you (for example SRB in Sindh, PRA in Punjab). Check the Federal Board of Revenue (opens in a new tab) and your provincial authority.
- Make tax groups if needed. If two taxes stack on one sale, go to Settings → Tax rates → Tax groups and combine them.
- Choose inclusive or exclusive pricing. In Settings → Business settings → Sale, set whether the prices you type include tax. UAE shops showing VAT-inclusive prices pick inclusive, so a cut listed at a round price stays that price at the till. US shops normally pick exclusive.
- Set a default tax. Pick the rate most of your items use so new services and products get it automatically.
- Design the receipt. Go to Settings → Invoice settings → Layouts. Upload your logo, choose what shows (address, phone, tax number, barber name, client name) and write a short footer such as your opening hours or a thank-you line. Pick a size for your printer (80mm thermal is common).
- Test it. Open POS, add any item, and print or preview the receipt. Check the totals and the tax line.
Common mistakes
- Mixing inclusive and exclusive. If you set prices as tax-inclusive but type them as pre-tax, every total will be off. Decide once and stick to it.
- One rate for everything when your area taxes services and goods differently. Ask your accountant and set rates per item.
- Forgetting the tax number on receipts. Many authorities expect it on tax invoices. Turn it on in the layout.
- Typing tax rules from memory. Rules change. Check the authority’s site or your accountant every year.
- Skipping the test sale. One test receipt catches most setup errors.
